An ancestral immersion to discover past treasures that Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive has meticulously preserved over time awaits your next visit to the Musée maritime de Charlevoix (Charlevoix Maritime Museum) and the Papeterie Saint-Gilles (Saint-Gilles Stationery).

The Papeterie Saint-Gilles story began in 1965

Located in a former school building, Papeterie Saint-Gilles offers a guided tour at set times or even self-guided tours by simply using your cell phone. You will learn the general history of paper and all the steps in its design. Made from cotton fibres, artisanal paper is made entirely on-site and you can even watch the craftsmen as they work.

After visiting this paper museum, a charming little boutique will inspire your creative spirit. In addition to paper encrusted with flowers or phragmites (an herbaceous plant), a large selection of artistic materials, and several works of art are all available on-site. Pens and Indian ink take us back many years – just fascinating! In the summer, there are even temporary exhibitions of several works by local artists on Saint-Gilles paper.

Musée maritime de Charlevoix

Immerse yourself in the unique world of the Musée maritime de Charlevoix. The shipyard is located at the edge of the shore and comprises three boats you can visit plus an interior museum space. The hold of the St-André presents a captivating multimedia experience. Embark and participate as a sailor in the transport of wood and dynamite.

The schooner Marie Clarisse and the tugboat Félicia are two other vessels where you can visit the captain’s cabin, crew room, dining room, hold and more. Let yourself be carried away on a journey through time thanks to the boats’ preserved authenticity. Your little ones can imagine being part of the crew for the full experience.

After sailing back in time, we suggest a visit to the navigators park. A wooded path will lead you to a huge playground featuring an obstacle course, a maze, swings and sculptures. A new escape game is now available to make the learning experience more fun and end the day on a high note.
