La Malbaie

The wharves of La Malbaie, including Pointe-au-Pic, Casgrain and Cap-à-l’Aigle, are popular places to observe seabirds thanks to stretches of open water created by the river’s currents. The Sentier des planètes at Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu also offers the chance to spot several species in a wooded setting overlooking the St. Lawrence River.

While driving along Mountain Road and throughout Charlevoix, it is not uncommon to spot red-winged blackbirds perched on fences, birds of prey in the trees, a harrier gliding over the fields, or numerous warblers fluttering along the roadside.

The Centre écologique de Port-au-Saumon offers interpretation trails for wildlife observation, where visitors can discover Charlevoix’s migratory birds and plant life, with or without a naturalist guide. The Sentier de l’Aigle doré is especially well suited for observing golden eagles during the spring and fall migrations.

From the top of the 10-metre observation tower in Baie-Saint-Paul, visitors can enjoy an open view of the salt marshes, mountains and wooded areas. It is an ideal setting for bird observation.

Parc des Riverains in Petite-Rivière Saint-François

This spartina marsh area is home to several aquatic birds, including gulls, ducks, geese and grebes. At Parc des Riverains, visitors may also spot sandpipers and plovers. In the forest, woodpeckers and diurnal birds of prey tend to draw attention.
