About

The Musée de Charlevoix is a not-to-be-missed cultural attraction within our beautiful region. Through your visit of its four exhibition halls, one being located outdoors, you will delight in the history of Charlevoix and popular art.

The museum’s shop features a vast array of objects, books and handicrafts made by local artists.

You will enjoy a pleasant moment contemplating the Saint-Lawrence River surrounding this outstanding institution…Visiting the rooftop terrace is an absolute must to admire the scenery in all its glory!

Young families are also welcomed. Your children will love our animal sculptures and the large blackboard with chalk awaiting their drawings. Rallies are also offered to everyone’s delight!

In addition to nearby restaurants and inns, a visit to the Musée de Charlevoix is pure bliss!

Activities

  • In summer as in winter, discover Charlevoix differently, its history, culture and art. Enjoy three exhibitions in one visit, stop by the boutique (with souvenirs signed Made in Charlevoix) and appreciate the breathtaking view from the Musée’s roof. Visiting with the family? Great! We offer rallies, association games and educational workshops! Close to restaurants, inns and boutiques, and above all…before the river!

  • The Charlevoix Museum can easily accommodate groups (of all ages). The entrance fee for groups of 10 people or more is $ 5 per person. It is possible to take a guided tour at a cost of $ 25 per guide per visit. Capacity of 75 people at a time, divided into three groups of 25 people. Mandatory reservation.

  • Dargis – This country that was mine

    April 30, 2021 to July 16, 2022

    Over his long life Marcel Dargis, 92, has produced a monumental collection of lively and colorful paintings that bear witness to his respect and passion for the “small history” of Quebec. A painter of the naïve school, Dargis casts a critical and tender eye upon the past to trace as well as to honor it. His universe is an invitation to rediscover our patrimony.

  • Fantastical creatures in the Cap-à-l’Aigle gardens

    Exposition

    The Cap-à-l’Aigle gardens are now home for a number of fantastical creatures staged throughout the verdant and flowered setting of this botanical treasure trove. The strange beasts and super-sized flowers from the popular art collection are all works made of recycled materials. Visitors, on the look-out for out-of-the-ordinary art installations and drawn towards points of interest along the trail, will be charmed by these creatures that mingle in with the natural surroundings and the hundreds of species of lily on display in the gardens. These strange and intriguing half-hidden beasts and flowers are yours to discover along the entire length of the trail.

  • Moon fish at Quai Casgrin park

    Exposition

    Produced by Jean-François Lettre and Pierre Bouchard in the context of the #CovidArtQc event, the Moon Fish will, going forward, be exhibited in Parc du Quai Casgrain. The giant Moon Fish artwork is a wooden sculpture that will be illuminated during evenings. In addition, during the summer it will serve as a screen for the projection of short films.

  • Transmitters of tradition – Prix du patrimoine

    July 29, 2021 to September 5, 2022

    In collaboration with the two RCMs of Charlevoix, the Musée pays homage to the winners of the Prix du Patrimoine competition. This space is dedicated to projects which have stood out by ensuring the continued diffusion of the culture of our region.

  • The hippy years in Charlevoix

    April 30 to July 16, 2022

    The “back to the earth” movement left its mark on the visual history of the region. With a principle concern for documenting this period rich in creativity, the exhibit explores the human impact of the hippies. Through ethnological interviews, the visitor gets a glimpse into the values held by this revolutionary generation which still today influence our society and way of life.
