Christian Larochelle, céramiste

Gallery-boutique with unique ceramic pieces for sale. Christian Larochelle likes to say that he doesn’t simply use materials, he expresses himself through a creative process. The boutique houses sculptures, yunomi, kurinuki and more. The pieces are created using local materials and raku firing.

  • After studying biochemistry at university and a career in the field spanning more than 20 years, in 2018 Christian began a 3-year training course at the Maison des métiers d’art de Québec. He finished his studies in 2021, and was awarded the “expression” prize in the Prix de la relève MMAQ that same year. Since then, he has been focused on creating decorative ceramics with a geological touch. Right from the start of his studies, Christian took an interest in the chemical makeup and physical structure of the objects he made, more specifically the relationships between the materials, shapes and appearances. He is fascinated by an object’s countless visual possibilities, simply by tearing up clay and altering its humidity levels. Ceramics has since evolved into producing objects that showcase the clay substrate itself. He likes to say that he doesn’t simply use materials, he expresses himself through creative processes.
