The Traversée de Charlevoix enters the Mountain Sector, at the heart of the World Biosphere Reserve. Des Sommets trail will take you 12 km on one of Québec’s most beautiful natural paths. Located on the ridge of the Charlevoix meteorite crater, this path on the hillside features a string of cliffs over the Lac-à-l’Écluse. It is a pleasant hike going from the boreal forest to the taiga, with its subalpine vegetation. In this open spruce-lichen forest, cladonia stellaris, kalmia, Labrador tea, and other abundant wild plants including the delicious blueberries in season. The path leads to mountain tops offering breathtaking views over the immense mountainous backcountry territory: the Pic de l’Aigle, the Sommet de la Grive and that of the Butte-aux-mouches will delight you. Dip your toes in the crystal-clear water of Lac Favre!
Access
From Baie-Saint-Paul, follow Route 138 East, then Route 381 North to the welcoming station at kilometer 10.6. The trail starts at km 26.8 of route 381, take the Zec des Martres route for 4 km. The road is closed in winter, but the distance may be covered in snowshoes or skis. Accessible via a gravel forest road of 4 km.
Additional information
- Registration at the welcoming area is compulsory before going hiking ;
- During the hunting season, it is mandatory to wear the orange vest and cap.
