Petite-Rivière-Saint-François was the first settlement of the region (1675). Located at the foot of the ski centre, Le Massif de Charlevoix, Petite-Rivière-Saint-François is a narrow strip of land running along the river for more than 6 kilometres. To the East, Baie-Saint-Paul – a true inspiratiion site to many artists and artesans – unfurls its beauty in a valley where the Rivière-du-Gouffre runs toward the Saint-Lawrence. Art galleries abund while festivals and cultural events multiply.
Baie-Saint-Paul is a beautiful and authentic cultural capital. Energy runs high between sea and mountains. Poets, artists and street entertainers have always found here inspiration larger than nature. The impact of a meteorite, 350 million years ago, might very well be the reason for all this excitement.
