Overview of the Region
Mountain Drive
Whatever the season, the Charlevoix Hinterland is sure to charm with its myriad of natural attractions in the heart of the Charlevoix crater. The Saint-Urbain, Saint-Hilarion, Notre-Dame-des-Monts, Saint-Aimé-des-Lacs, and Clermont municipalities offer activities as varied as cycle touring, ski touring, horseback riding, dogsledding, hunting, and trout & salmon fishing.
Making up much of the World Biosphere Reserve, Parc national des Grands-Jardins and Parc national des Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie are treasures of the Parcs Québec network. A favorite activity at the former is a boat tour on Rivière Malbaie, which flows peacefully at the base of the highest cliffs east of the Canadian Rockies. In the latter, caribou roam freely amidst the Nordic vegetation and boreal forest. A number of educational activities are available to visitors at the park’s interpretation center.
