Les Petites Franciscaines de Marie Museum

In 1981, Curé Ambroise-Martial Fafard, the founder of Hospice Sainte-Hélène, calls upon Les Petites Franciscaines de Marie, a tiny branch of an American religious congregation from Worcester, Massachussets, They accept to care for the mentally handicapped. It was a unique opportunity for the twelve nuns to pursue their religious lives here in Canada, on friendly soil, as they could no longer do so from whence they came. 1892 marks the date of their earliest commitment, with the construction of their Mother House in Baie-Saint-Paul. The Museum Hall shows the tormented history ot their beginnings (1889-1891), and their assorted Canadian and American apostelships. Madagascar, the congregation's adoptive land for missionary work since 1968, also draws the visitor's eye. The two exhibits on the congregation's history are both musts, as is the audio-guided heritage chapel tour.
