History buffs will be fascinated too by a guided tour of the legendary Maison du Bootlegger, as well as the ones offered at the seignorial manor and village forge located in Les Éboulements. La Maison du Bootlegger, a century-old residence with extremely convoluted architecture, may be toured evenings, providing a trip back in time to relive the exciting days of Prohibition. Afterwards, why not crown your visit with a succulent char-broiled menu selection enjoyed to the lively sounds of Québécois music. Les Éboulements’ seignorial manor is one of the rare sites in Québec that draws visitors back into the era of the seignorial regime in such an authentic fashion. Their guided tour to discover the manor house and its outbuildings includes its root cellar, barn, gardener’s house and of course the mill. Lastly, the village forge offers a guided tour that introduces you to one hundred years of history. Along with forge demonstrations, visitors are invited to examine the tools of the trade that date back from1875 to 1925.
Agritourism aficionados will surely enjoy the guided tour offered by the Charlevoix’s many artisans, growers and producers. First, la Maison d’affinage Maurice Dufour proposes a guided tour of its renowned estate, to learn some of the secrets to making the highly acclaimed Migneron family of cheeses, and sample their exclusive products too. Next, a guided tour of the largest emu farm in Québec offers an opportunity to observe the animals at every stage of life, learn about their habitat and habits, discover a full range of emu-based products (oils, soaps, cream, shampoo, eggs) and sample emu dishes. Then, la Chocolaterie du village, with its unique creations and forty varieties of chocolate, treats you to onsite chocolate-making demonstrations and a facility tour. La Ferme Basque de Charlevoix, an artisan duck farm specializing in duck foie gras and other duck products, offers visitors guided tours of its outdoor facility. It also explains the traditional grain-based force-feeding technique conducted in their collective parks that champion animal wellness. You may also sample the farm’s specialty products, and relax in their picnic area. Lastly, la Miellerie de Charlevoix and its 100 beehives offer visitors a chance to discover a range of honeys, a Bee Safari and a boutique where house products may be purchased. Their Bee Safari is an invitation to experience beekeeping first-hand, and visit the hives is complete safety.
La Laiterie Charlevoix and its Cheese Economuseum® propose a tour to demystify cow’s milk cheese-making processes, and provide a run through covering its various stages of production. Vintage Charlevoix cheese-making tools are also on exhibit, along with related historical information on Québec’s dairy and cheesemaking industries.
