La Forge-menuiserie Cauchon
Built in 1882 by smithy Joseph Cauchon, this historic forge and carpentry shop was once at the very heart of a tiny industrial hub that included a sawmill, a flour mill, a wool-carding wheel, a shingling mill and a planing mill. It’s a reminder of the major socio-economic role that blacksmiths and carpenters once played in the Québécois community back at the end of the XIXth century and in the early XXth century. It also testifies to the artisans’ inventiveness and ability to adapt, and to the numerous occupations practised by several generations of Cauchons. A remarkable fact is that two generally independent trades find themselves gathered under one roof. The smithy-carpentry shop was classified as a historical monument on June 8, 1983 by Québec’s Ministry of Cultural Affairs. Entertainment & guided tour.
