Musée de Charlevoix

A must-visit to better appreciate the region, le Musée de Charlevoix has conserved, studied and spotlighted the Charlevoix’s historical, artistic and ethnological heritages since 1975. Its history and culture are presented alongside works by leading artists from different generations. Permanent exhibits: January 16 2012, “Fabuleux Familier - Charlevoix Raconté” explores the Charlevoix, its history and arts through ancient artefacts. Espousing the four geographic milieux of belonging and evolution of the Charlevoix’s human occupation - namely the river, the Earth, the forest and the mountains - it evokes the visions of its residents and of those just passing through. Playful, the exhibit also offers interactive activities: Historic milestones, sound track segments, objects to handle, etc. Temporary exbibits: June 20 2011 - May 13 2012, “Cap sur les Bateaux Blancs” is an exhibit for rediscovering the majestic ships that once sailed the St. Lawrence River; June 18 2012 - Fall 2012, “Kriegohff et son Temps - Regards sur les Premières Nations“. The museum mezzanine features new exhibits every three months that spotlight select artists, groups of artists, organizations or Charlevoix themes. The Gallery Boutique offers a cornucopia of gift ideas: Books, works of art, crafts, regional products, greeting cards, etc. The outdoor terrace, with its unparalleled views of the mountains and the majestic St. Lawrence River, is also a must.
